The UBC Department of Emergency Medicine is delighted to announce the promotions of several of our clinical faculty in 2021! We would like to honour their achievements and wish them continued success at UBC.
Faculty Spotlight – Savannah Forrester
Meet Dr. Savannah Forrester, a clinical instructor with the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine and an emergency physician at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals on Vancouver Island. Dr. Forrester is passionate about caring for our growing population of older adults and aspires to develop a standardized curriculum for medical students and emergency medicine residents to expand geriatric-focused educational opportunities and fostering an early appreciation for care of older adults.

Dr. Ben Huang receives the 2021 CAEP/CJEM Penelope Gray-Allen Writing Award
Congratulations to UBC Emergency Medicine Resident, Dr. Ben Huang on receiving the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians/Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine’s Penelope Gray-Allen Writing Award. The award recognizes an article on Humanities in Emergency Medicine submitted to Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine.

Emergency physicians need further education to improve care for suicidal patients
UBC Department of Emergency Medicine Clinical Associate Professor, Dr. Frank Scheuermeyer, and Clinical Assistant Professor, Dr. David Barbic, joined colleagues from UBC Department of Psychiatry and the UBC Faculty of Medicine in analyzing the attitudes of emergency physicians towards suicidal patients and measuring the skills and training of emergency physicians to care for these patients.
