About

The UBC Department of Emergency Medicine is a provincially integrated department committed to clinical and academic leadership in the creation and exchange of knowledge to promote excellence in emergency care.

Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine website. Emergency Medicine sits at a unique position in our Health Care System, between community care and acute care. Emergency Physicians deal with the failure of chronic disease management, trauma, sudden and unexpected critical illness, and a wide range of physical, social and psychological emergencies.

The role of the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine is to discover new and better ways to manage patients presenting to emergency departments and to share the knowledge of best practices with all emergency medicine practitioners and new learners. Our faculty have an impressive record of research and discovery.

Academic Emergency Physicians have taught residents and medical students at UBC for over thirty years. Teaching by over 750 faculty occurs in hospitals across this beautiful province through the UBC Medical School affiliates at the University of Victoria, the University of Northern British Columbia and the UBC Southern Medical Program in Kelowna.
