The Department of Emergency Medicine is involved in undergraduate teaching through all four years of the UBC MD Program. Our faculty participate in Years 1 & 2 teaching, and we offer a limited number of observer shifts (two) for interested UBC medical students in those pre-clinical years at many sites. The Department of Emergency Medicine organizes and recruits Emergency Medicine faculty members to teach the TiCE (Transition into Clinical Education) 2nd Year wound management workshop to all students just prior to the start of Year 3. UBC was the first medical school in Canada to provide a four-week Year 3 EM Core Clerkship for all students (now 297). The clerkship is delivered at 16 teaching sites across four clinical academic campuses and an additional six Integrated Community Clerkship Sites. Students consistently rate the EM clerkship the most highly. We also offer additional four-week electives in Year 4 to both UBC and out of province students.
