Incite Vancouver is a youth-led organization that is hosting British Columbia’s first-ever medical case competition designed for secondary school students. Incite MedComp will take place on May 29th and will involve teams of 4-5 students working to analyze a medical case study. Teams will have to work under a time constraint and expand their teamwork skills in order to give thorough and critically thought out answers.

The work of the students will culminate in a filmed presentation summarizing the case and the team’s answers, which will be judged by a panel consisting of physicians and medical students. A cash prize will be given to the top placing team, and other prizes include a feature on the Incite Vancouver website and donations from their event sponsors.

Incite MedComp will begin with a presentation by Keynote Speaker and UBC Department of Emergency Medicine faculty member, Dr. Sandra Jenneson. Dr. Jenneson is the Regional Medical Director for BC Emergency Health Services and an emergency physician at Royal Columbian Hospital. She will be discussing her journey in medicine to where she is now, and her current work. Students will learn about an emergency physician’s job on a day-to-day basis, challenging or rewarding situations that are unique to this workplace, etc.

“I am excited to participate in the event because it is a wonderful opportunity to connect with future medical students” says Dr. Jenneson. “I’m looking forward to providing (as best I can!) a glimpse into a career in emergency medicine.”
