Clinical Faculty Promotions

Department of Emergency Medicine is pleased to announce the opening of applications for Clinical Faculty Promotions for the year 2024.

Promotion Criteria and Process:

In accordance with departmental guidelines, the rank of Clinical faculty appointment is typically held for a minimum of 2 years for Clinical Instructors and 5 years for all other ranks before a promotion. This period allows candidates to demonstrate significant activity and impact commensurate with the new rank they aspire to attain.

While the department welcomes applications for promotions at any time when candidates believe they meet the criteria for the desired rank, we strongly advise reviewing your activity since your initial appointment or last promotion to ensure alignment with the promotion criteria outlined in the Description of Academic Ranks for Clinical Faculty. Promotions primarily consider activities and achievements since the last promotion, with an emphasis on teaching and professional contributions.

Application Process:

If you have met the above criteria or have been encouraged or recommended for a promotion, we invite you to submit an application. The next promotions meeting will be convened on July, 2024, and all applications must be received by June 15, 2024 to be considered.

Upon expressing your interest in a higher rank, please provide the following documents for your promotion file: All documents must be submitted to emergency.hr@ubc.ca  by the specified deadline.

  • Letter of Intent: A statement expressing your interest in advancement and summarizing your accomplishments since your [last promotion/initial appointment].
  • Letter of Support: A letter from your Hospital Department Head endorsing your application. If unavailable, a letter from your direct clinical supervisor will suffice.
  • Curriculum Vitae: An up-to-date CV in UBC Abbreviated Format.
  • Teaching Assessments: A minimum of 5 teaching evaluations since your [last promotion/initial appointment]. If unable to attain 5 evaluations, please provide an explanation in your Letter of Intent.
