Dr. Gord McInnes receives 2023 UBC Faculty of Medicine Award

Congratulations to Dr. Gord McInnes for receiving a 2023 Faculty of Medicine Award. Dr. McInnes received a Clinical Faculty Mid-Career Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.

“Receiving this award is not just a recognition of my efforts; it’s a marker of the commitment of all emergency physicians who tirelessly serve both patients and teach learners to invest in the future of medicine.”
– Dr. Gord McInnes

Dr. McInnes is a Clinical Associate Professor with the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine, and an emergency physician based in Kelowna, BC. He has been the Discipline Site Specific Lead since 2014. During that time, he has brought in a collaborative interdisciplinary emergency shift where third year medical students are provided the opportunity to work with emergency nurses to enhance the team dynamics of medicine. Additionally, students can learn from cardiology technologists within their rotation.

Dr. McInnes continues to collaborate with learners and, as a result, he has contributed to educational resources including a video on the mental health act, numerous clinical resources on the Emergency Care BC website, and most recently an EM orientation guide for third year clinical clerks and fourth year elective students. This guide has allowed the previous rotation’s orientation to become a session focused on the learning needs of individual students.

The Faculty of Medicine’s annual awards recognize excellence in clinical teaching by clinical faculty members.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. McInnes for this outstanding recognition and thanking him for his commitment to clinical teaching.
