Remembering Dr. Tracy Pickett

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Dr. Tracy Pickett.

Dr. Pickett was a passionate teacher in her role as clinical professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine, which she joined in 2009.

As a physician at Vancouver General Hospital and medical director for the BC Women’s Hospital Sexual Assault Service, Dr. Pickett brought a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and passion to her work in emergency medicine and clinical forensic medicine.

She was the only physician in North America to have both an academic degree (a master’s degree in forensic medicine from Monash University in Australia) and a fellowship in clinical forensic medicine. In addition to serving as the past-president of the Medical Legal Society of British Columbia, Dr. Pickett’s expertise led her to be on the roster of retained experts at the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands, a reflection of her esteemed international standing and expertise.

As we grapple with this immense loss, Dr. Pickett will be forever remembered for her contributions to medicine and forensics. Her commitment to excellence, service, and mentorship will forever inspire those fortunate to have known her and the countless others who will come to know of her.

In these challenging times, it’s essential for us as a community to come together in support, understanding, and compassion. We encourage anyone affected by this loss to seek out the available resources and counselling services provided by UBC.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Pickett’s family, friends, and all who join us in mourning her passing.
