John Tallon

Dr. John M. Tallon is a Co-Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine. He recently finished his term as inaugural Chief Medical Officer with the British Columbia Emergency Health Services/Provincial Health Services Authority (August 28, 2020) where he was previously Vice President of Medical Programs. He also works as a consultant physician for Health Link BC in the virtual physician 811 support program. (www.healthlinkbc.ca/)

He is a past President of the Trauma Association of Canada (TAC). He has served on the Physician Advisory Board for Accreditation Canada and has been an active surveyor for Accreditation Canada for 10 years with primary accreditation experience in EMS, emergency medicine, trauma, medical imaging and diagnostics and laboratory testing.

Dr. Tallon is currently appointed clinical professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UBC. He is also appointed as adjunct professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dalhousie University with cross appointments as adjunct professor in the Departments of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University. He has certification as Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE). In May 2022, Dr. Tallon was awarded the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders Excellence in Medical Leadership Award (Chris Carruthers Award).

Teaching Interests

Dr. Tallon’s teaching interests include trauma resuscitation, head injury, research methods, health care systems, professionalism and leadership.

Research Interests

Dr. Tallon’s research interests include health care systems, emergency medical systems, trauma systems, resuscitation, and paramedic practice.
