Anne-Marie Jamin is the interCultural Online health Network (iCON) Program Manager with the Digital Emergency Medicine program within UBC’s Department of Emergency Medicine.

How long have you worked in the Department/UBC?

I have been working with the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) since 2015.

Can you summarize what you do in the Department?

I work for Digital Emergency Medicine, a program within DEM that carries out research, community engagement, and educational activities to explore how modern information and communication technologies can improve health care. I’ve held various roles with Digital Emergency Medicine over the past seven years, but I am currently a Program Manager for the interCultural Online health Network (iCON) initiative where I work with multicultural and Indigenous communities to advance person- and family-centred health care that is culturally tailored and culturally safe.

What is your favourite thing about working in the Department?

The people! It feels incredibly special to work with such a fantastic team, with people who are passionate about advancing health equity, and improving health care and population health through research and innovation. Also, I love learning from the rich perspectives our diverse range of stakeholders bring to guide our work.

What is one interesting fact about you that people may not know?

I became passionate about public health and community engagement while working for a free health clinic in Guatemala. To support this clinic’s impactful work, I participated in a benefit bicycle trek from Canada to Guatemala where I quickly learned never to camp in parks with sprinkler systems.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I love hiking and camping with my family. As a mom of two young boys, it’s currently 80 per cent logistics, snacks and finding the nearest washroom – but it’s also pure magic. I also love any chance to connect with people over good food, coffee and/or live music.
