Dr. David Sweet appointed Executive Medical Director for the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council

Dr. David Sweet, Clinical Associate Professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine, has accepted the position of Executive Medical Director with the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council (the Council).

In this new role, Dr. Sweet will provide leadership and clinical expertise to develop leading edge strategies and partnerships in support of the Council’s mission and strategic plan.

Dr. Sweet will play an integral role in providing provincial clinical leadership and expertise in quality, including supporting efforts to improve quality of care by providing advice and direction. He will work closely with fellow members of the senior leadership team to inform and help develop the overall strategic direction of the Council, as well as ensuring the Council promotes engagement of clinicians and development of clinical teams.

Dr. Sweet has been a member of the Council since 2011 as the Provincial Clinical Lead for sepsis. In this expanded role, he will continue to provide leadership to the Council on their provincial sepsis efforts.

About Dr. David Sweet
Dr. David Sweet is a Clinical Associate Professor with UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine. He has completed fellowship positions in both Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine at the University of British Columbia. He currently practices as an attending physician in Critical Care Medicine at Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Sweet is a local, national and international educator and expert in the field of sepsis and septic shock management. In 2015, he received a Global Sepsis Award from the Global Sepsis Alliance for his leadership in advancing sepsis care in British Columbia. More recently, Dr. Sweet chaired the British Columbia COVID-19 Therapeutics Committee that made recommendations to guide physicians in B.C. on COVID-19 management.
