Dr. Ben Huang
Congratulations to UBC Department of Emergency Medicine Resident, Dr. Ben Huang, on receiving the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP)/Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine (CJEM)’s Penelope Gray-Allen Writing Award. The award recognizes an article on Humanities in Emergency Medicine submitted to CJEM.
In his paper, “Last rites,” Dr. Huang considers his conversations with patients’ families over the years and reflects on the words of his mentor, “In this job, you will eventually, inevitably forget how to cry. When that happens, you have to—have to—find your way back,”
Dr. Huang is in his 5th-year of UBC RCPSC Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He is completing a Fellowship in Global Journalism with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health in Toronto and hopes to pursue opportunities in medical and video journalism.
