CAEP 2013 (June 1-5) was a resounding success thanks to so many talented and committed people. Even the weather cooperated to show our out-of-town visitors what a beautiful part of Canada we live in.
A few highlights…
- 864 registrants – the most ever
- 250 speakers
- 250 abstracts presented in 4 formats – standard oral, lightening oral, moderated hard-copy, moderated electronic versions and standard posters
- the BC Mobile Medical Unit on site to provide a real-life environment for the Simulation Olympian Competition
- 3 preconference roadshows
- a preconference consensus conference on Emergency Medicine Educational Scholarship
- ratification of academic emergency medicine as a formal Section in CAEP with board representation
Substantial BC contributions…
- Ka Wai Cheung won the best young investigator prize
- Peter Zed (affiliate faculty) won the best pediatric research prize
- UBC had 32 abstracts as first author, more than any other university
- The CFPC(EM) resident team won the preliminary round in the Simulation Olympiad, but were eliminated in the semifinals
- Jim Goulding and Christine Hall were judges in the Simulations Olympiad
