Dr. David Barbic and Dr. Brian Grunau Receive a 2021 UBC Science Co-op Employer Recognition Award

We are excited to share that the UBC Science Co-op Program has selected Dr. David Barbic and Dr. Brian Grunau for the 2021 UBC Science Co-op Employer Recognition Awards in the Supervisor Awards category.

Established in 2017, the annual UBC Science Co-op Employer Recognition Award recognizes exceptional companies and supervisors who have supported the Science Co-op Program and its students through work integrated learning opportunities and have gone above and beyond in providing valuable work term experiences as well as professional growth opportunities.

I find the supervisor role in the co-op program rewarding. It allows me to return the favour of early-career mentorship and support that I was fortunate enough to have received at that stage of my training. I enjoy seeing our co-op students grow in skills and confidence over the year they’re with us.

Dr. David Barbic, Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC Department of Emergency Medicine, emergency physician at St Paul’s Hospital, and scientist with UBC Centre for Health Evaluation & Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS)

The award is based on a high quality of experiential learning, mentorship and an opportunity for professional and personal growth provided by the organization; continued partnership with and support of the UBC Science Co-op Program; and contribution to various UBC Science Co-op extra-curricular activities.

It is a rewarding experience to work with passionate students and learn from their innovative ideas.
