2021 CAEP Award Winners

CAEP 2021 Annual Award Winners:

The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) grant annual awards recognizing excellence in specific areas within emergency medicine, including advocacy, education, research, and professional practice. Nominated by their peers, the final award winners are selected either by a CAEP committee and/or the CAEP Board of Directors.

We are proud to share that two members of the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine were recognized in 2021:

RCPSC-EM resident, Dr. Ben Huang, was honoured with the Penny Gray-Allen Memorial CJEM Writing Award. This award recognizes a Humanities in Emergency Medicine article submitted to the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine (CJEM).

UBC Emergency Medicine Clinical Associate Professor, Dr. Heather Lindsay, was honoured with one of the Emergency Physicians of the Year Awards. This award recognizes those that have achieved excellence in emergency medicine and is awarded to two individuals per Canadian region. Award winners have made outstanding contributions to patient care, community service, hospital or health care administration, or CAEP activities.

CAEP 2021 Abstract Award Winners:

CAEP Abstract Awards are awarded annually by the CAEP Research Committee as part of the CAEP Abstract Competition. UBC Emergency Medicine Clinical Assistant Professor, Dr. David Barbic, received the 2021 Grant Innes Research Paper & Presentation Award for his paper on the Rapid Agitation Control with Ketamine in the Emergency Department (RACKED) study.

In addition, UBC Emergency Medicine Clinical Instructor, Dr. Jeff Yoo, was awarded the Top Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Abstract award for his project aimed at enhancing emergency department intubation performance and decreasing complications during the COVID-19 pandemic. The QIPS track is designed to foster the scholarly dissemination of projects that aim to improve the care provided to patients, on a local or broader level.

Congratulations to our UBC Emergency Medicine 2021 CAEP award winners on their outstanding achievements!
